The broad Paro valley is the entry point for all visitors flying into Bhutan on the national carrier, Druk Air or Tashi Air. As the plane takes a dramatic sweep into Paro, the flight captain usually warns relieved passengers not to worry if the aircraft’s wings appear to be almost touching the mountainsides.

Places to visit include:

The Paro Dzong– The office of the Dzongkhag Administration

Ta Dzong–   The National Museum

Taktsang Monastery– The Tiger’s Nest, where Guru Padsamdhava came flying on Tigress’s back

Drukgyel Dzong– Ruins fortress, reminder of the great victories

Kyichu Lhakhang– One of the oldest monasteries in Bhutan

The Cafeteria– Relax and enjoy the stunning views
