Travel Formalities

Daily Tariff

Tourist tariff is set by Tourism Council of Bhutan, Royal Government of Bhutan and it is valid for all inclusive packages.

This tariff covers the following land costs for a Standard Package:
(a) Standard Hotel (2-3 star hotel) twin sharing accommodation; camping on treks
(b) Full Board – All meals at local restaurants/standard hotels/on treks
(c) All Internal Transport / Transfers
(d) Camping Equipment , Ponies & Assistants for treks
(e) services of  Licensed English Speaking Guide
(f) Sightseeing
(g) Entrances fees to museums, monuments and cultural sites
(h) All internal taxes and charges (including the royalty)

The packages do not cover:

  • The airfare
  • Travel & Medical Insurance
  • Excess luggage
  • Table Drinks
  • Telephone bills
  • Horse ride
  • Laundry
  • Bike riding

It also includes:

  • All internal taxes and charges
  • A sustainable tourism Royalty of $65. This Royalty goes towards free education, free healthcare, poverty alleviation, along with the building of infrastructure.

The minimum daily package for tourists travelling in a group of 3 persons or more is as follows:
USD $200 per person per night for the months of January, February, June, July, August, and December.
USD $250 per person per night for the months of March, April, May, September, October, and November.


FIT Surcharge

Individual tourists and smaller groups of less than three persons shall be subject to surcharge, over and above the minimum daily rates applicable, as follows:

If travelling as a single person- US$ 40 per night.
If travelling in a group of 2 persons- US$ 30 per person per night.

In case the number of persons traveling together is 03 or more then there is no surcharge.

Single Room Supplements

The tariff include only twin sharing accommodation so incase of using single rooms,          following supplements will be applicable :

For, Festival season = US$ 50/ per single room per night

For, other season = US$ 30/ per single room per night


  1. a) There shall be no charge for CHILDREN up to the age of 5 years (only Visa Fee and Tourism Development Fee payable). However, those between the ages of 6 to 12 years accompanied by elders/guardians receive a 50% discount on daily rates.
  2. b) Full time STUDENTS under the age of 25 years holding valid identity cards from their academic institutions shall also be given a 25% discount on daily rates. This discount is subject to approval from Tourism Council of Bhutan, Royal Government of Bhutan.
  3. c) A discount of 50% on daily rates is available for one person in a group of 11 to 15 persons and 100% discount to one person in a group exceeding 16 full paying persons.


Visa Formalities

Other than Indian, Bangladeshis and Maldivian nationals, all visitors to Bhutan require a visa. Visas are only issued to tourists booked with a local licensed tour operator, directly or through a foreign travel agent.

Full passport details along with full tour payment shall be emailed / faxed / couriered to us about 4 weeks prior to date of arrival in Bhutan or earlier if travelling to the kingdom in the peak months (September, October, November, March, April, or early May) to process visa with the concerned authorities. Therefore a copy of passport is required for visa application. Passports should be valid for at least 6 months.

  On the basis of information given by guest, visa is processed in Bhutan and upon approval, Visa Clearance is issued by Department of Immigration,  and we email you the same copy. Tourists need to produce this Visa Clearance copy at the time of check-in for Druk Air flight while those entering Bhutan by surface via Phuentsholing and Samdrup Jongkhar. Actual visa is stamped at passport, on arrival in Bhutan. Tourists entering Bhutan by surface via Phuentsholing also need to carry 02 copies of passport size photographs and handover it to our representative on arrival.Alternatively visas can be downloaded and processed on line. Cost of the Bhutan Visa is USD 40.00. Visas are issued for a 15 day period and extensions can be obtained at a cost of Nu.510.

Cancellation Policy

Tour Programmes booked and subsequently cancelled shall be subject to cancellation charges as follows:

  1. No charge for the tour canceled before 30 days of arrival date
  2. 50% cancellation charge for the tour cancelled before 20 days of arrival date
  3. No refund for less than 20 days of arrival date

Documentation charge of US$20 for change in dates

  1. 100% refund for cancellation made before 30 days of travel date
  2. 40% refund for cancellation made before 20 days of travel date
  3. No refund for cancellation made less than 20 days of travel date


Delayed Arrival/ Departure

There is no charge for the number of days of delays in arrival and departure of visitors because of weather conditions, Druk air problems or road blocks. The tourist must however bear the actual expenses on accommodation, food, transport and any other services required.
Travel Insurance

It is mandatory for all visitors to Bhutan to hold a valid comprehensive travel insurance policy. S P Tours and Treks can assist with this if required. Motorcyclists MUST hold a valid QBE travel insurance policy, which will cover them whilst riding in Bhutan.

 Many travel insurance companies no longer offer cover for trekking, rafting or other adventure activities. Please ensure your policy covers exactly the activities you will undertake on your journey.

Tour/ Trek Reservation

Cultural Tours- The Booking arrangements must be completed at least one month in advance for regular season and for peak season.  The spring and autumn festivals are our peak times for tourism, and without early reservations it can be difficult to confirm flights and hotels.

Trekking- As trekking requires detailed arrangements and planning, booking arrangements should be completed at least 8 weeks in advance.


Entire tour payment must be settled at least 6 weeks prior to date of arrival in Bhutan and VISA is cleared by Government subject to advance payment only. It is advisable to remit payment for Druk Air flights 3 months in advance or at the time of booking. This will help us to obtain confirmed seats on the requested flights.

Payment must be sent through wire transfer. Unfortunately there is no credit card facility in Bhutan for tour payments. We will provide full information on remittance of tour payment when you are ready to make the payment.  If you are unfamiliar with wire transfers, please visit your bank in person with the transfer details and they will be able to assist in making the payment. Our services are confirmed subject to advance payment only.
